Adoption Procedure

Step One: Submit an online application. You will be notified by email when it has been received.

Step Two: If we wish to move forward with your application, references will be requested and called. Your application will be reviewed by the Foster Co-ordinator Director. A home visit will then be scheduled, with all family members present. You will not be contacted if your application is not approved at this point.

Step Three: Arrangements will be made to visit our office with your family to meet the dog. You will go home and take time to think about the decision you will make, and we will discuss on our end if it's a good fit.

Step Four:  You will be contacted by the Foster Co-ordinator Director if you're approved and we will make arrangements for you to come pick up your new best friend! You must pay adoption fee at time of pickup, and fill out adoption agreement forms.

Adoption Fee's can be paid in the form of cheque made payable to: Oxford County Animal Rescue, or in cash. This will be marked on the adoption agreement.

Please keep in mind that we are a group of volunteers with pets and families of our own, so please be patient while we process your application. A home visit is necessary prior to adoption approval for all dogs.
Please feel free to ask us questions! We do ask our adopters to keep in touch with us and send us pictures when you can of your new furry family member!

    Frequently asked questions:
Why fill out such a detailed form?

We work for the rescue animals in need. It is our duty to ensure that they get the best home possible for them, so that they do not end up back in the rescue system or at a local SPCA because they weren’t matched up properly.

    Why an adoption fee?

We ask for an adoption fee so the pet holds value to you, and to show us that you can afford to keep a pet in proper care. We also provide veterinary care for our intakes (check-ups, emergencies, treatment for illness including medications, lab tests if needed, imaging if needed, etc.). Veterinary costs are not inexpensive, and we work hard at fundraising and rely on donations from our volunteers to cover these costs. We provide food to the foster homes, as well as toys and supplies, and veterinary care for the foster animals when in foster care also. Your adoption fee helps us to continue helping animals in need and providing them with their forever home, health and happiness!
We are a not for profit organization and all funds are only used for animal care.

Please note: You will only be contacted if we wish to arrange a home visit to proceed with adoption.

**Please do not call or email to followup on status of your application unless you’ve been contacted for a home visit. We do not have the volunteer manpower to field all of the emails and phone calls and this does not advance your application any faster.**
Thank you!
